Welcome, welcome, and more welcome to the Appealing Banana Productions blog!
On this blog you’ll find information and news related to ABP films and projects that are underway. Our goal is to provide a new, fun, and exciting look at the world of filmmaking from the inside out as we learn the craft and how to better it.
The first project that we are working on follows the UMass Amherst campus’ Fall 2008 game of Humans versus Zombies, presented by their registered student organization: Mass Games.
What exactly is Humans versus Zombies?
Humans versus Zombies is a fully immersive and interactive game of tag founded by Goucher College students in which there are humans and there are zombies. The humans have the goal to survive, using Nerf guns, socks, and marshmallows to “stun” zombies for 10 minutes at a time, while the zombies must “tag” the humans in order to eat their brains. During the course of the game, each side participates in optional “missions” in which there are specific goals that must be accomplished in order to earn an in-game reward. Everyone who plays HvZ and has fun is a winner of the game, regardless of their final status. There are no losers.
What exactly is there to film for Humans versus Zombies?
The goal of the Appealing Banana Production of the Fall 2008 Humans versus Zombies filming was to create a hybrid narrative/documentary that covers what HvZ is all about, while also including a story to keep things entertaining. There will be sporadic interviews with players and characters within the film, along with epic battle sequences that actually happened all around the UMass Amherst campus during the game.
When can we expect to see the final product?
The goal is to have the film done before the start of the Spring 2009 HvZ game on the UMass Amherst campus, but you’ll have to keep checking the ABP blog for updates!
That is kind of a crappy answer…
Well in all honesty we’re students. It’s hard to edit a feature length film in a few months while trying to succeed in school. It’ll be done when it’s done, Duke.
So once again, welcome to the Appealing Banana Productions blog, keep checking back for news and join our RSS feed, and most importantly, stay classy!
